Aesculap Knee Implants. Knee for every patient.

Designed to fit every single patient

Function is crucial. Form follows.
You will never face or see the geometry of the implanted prosthesis. You will measure the success of your knee arthroplasty by the relief of pain and the ability to recover the motion that enables you to return to your daily activities without limitation.
This is the reason why we consider in all our programs that the resulted rebuilding of the joint function is more important that the geometry of the implants. The form is conditioned by the expected functional result and not by the geometrical characteristics of the joint.

Columbus® and e.motion® knee systems follow exactly this philosophy. They guarantee that you are able to develop again the same life as before without pain.

Ideal positioning helps restore the function
One of the most common complication of Total Knee Arthroplasty is due to the mal-alignment of implants. Being mal-aligned, implants cannot work in a proper way supporting the patients to recover and return to a satisfactory level of activity.
One of the main reason why Aesculap developed, brought on the market, and promote the OrthoPilot® navigation system, is exactly to avoid these complications for the patients. The positioning of the implants is precise and optimal, so that function can be restored.
Furthermore, we took great care in developing implants that enable a reproduction of the most physiological movements, combining at the same time motion and stability.

Optimal implant fit to individual patient’s anatomy
Aesculap knee systems have been developed taking into account all the possible differences existing between morphotypes, sizes, and pathologies. As a result, our knee prosthesis implant systems offer a large variety of sizes and options in order to optimally fit to the individual patient’s anatomy.
Furthermore, during the operation, the use of OrthoPilot® navigation system, will allow the surgeon to register the exact biomechanics and anatomy of the patient’s leg and knee joint. The consequence is the construction of a model reproducing accurately the patient’s knee joint geometry. Then the navigated operation and implantation of our prosthesis can be realized in a very precise way. The prosthesis fits perfectly to the patients individual anatomy and leg axis.

For patients with metal allergies, e.g. against nickel, cobalt and chrome, Aesculap offers an innovative solution to prevent allergic reactions – AS coated implants. This coating is available for e.motion® and Columbus® knee implants.

Optimized computation of size
After being the pioneer in knee joint navigation, and with more than 10 years of clinical experience and more than 70.000 navigated knee prosthesis, we reach a grade of precision that is today unbeaten. The intra-operative computation of the size of the required implants is performed in a very accurate, reliable and reproducible way. It avoids any inaccuracies in implant sizing leading to an increase risk of post-operative pain, limitation, or complication. Walking painfree with our implants is a mandatory objective that is realised with the use of the advanced navigated knee software and instrumentation.
