In future, innovative nutrition solutions will be developed and produced for the world market in the LIFE Nutrition plant. A total of 270 people will be employed in the new production facility and laboratory, including 80 new jobs.

The high level of investment in German production sites will also help us to hold our own on the fast-moving world market in years to come.”

The Melsungen facility is part of an extensive project concerned with the development and production of nutrition solutions. It is the product of eight subprojects conducted in the areas of Pharmaceutical Development, Sterilization, Bag Production and Packaging Development. “The key element is that all projects run parallel and that the results must be gradually incorporated into the other projects, so that the end product as a whole will be a success”, explained Dr. Meinrad Lugan, the member of the B. Braun Melsungen Board responsible for the Hospital Care division. “This is the first project of its kind to be conducted at B. Braun.”

The new facility will include two lines for filling bags with clinical nutrition solutions such as amino acid solutions, carbohydrate solutions and lipid emulsions. This involves the use of three different types of bags. Firstly, there are bags with two or three chambers joined by a thin seam. These can be pushed open, meaning that the content can be mixed easily whenever required. In addition, a ‘mono-bag’ is used for nutrients. These are containers with one chamber that are used in a variety of formats.
