Intelligent Use of Gravity for Physiological CSF-Drainage
The GAV® is a valve for the treatment of adult hydrocephalus working dependent on the body position of the patient. Titanium technology ensures a maximum of precision and functional safety.

A ball-in-cone-valve is integrated in the inlet of the device. As long as the patient is lying the IVP is reliable controlled by the ball-in-cone unit of the GAV®.

In the upright position the weight of the tantalum ball creates an additional resistance. Therefore the opening pressure of the GAV® in the vertical body position is defined by the sum of both mechanisms, the ball-in-cone unit and the gravitional unit. The risk of overdrainage is significantly reduced.

The GAV® is available in six pressure ranges. It is possible to determine the pressure stage of the implanted valve by x-ray.

The GAV® ist available as a single product or as a shunt system with different components.
