Dr. Hanns-Peter Knaebel succeeds Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael Ungethüm on the Board.
Melsungen (Germany). Dr. Hanns-Peter Knaebel (40) is to join the Management Board of B. Braun Melsungen AG as a Deputy Member on April 1, 2009. Dr. Knaebel will succeed Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h. c. Michael Ungethüm (65), who will be retiring from the Management Board and joining the Supervisory Board at the end of March 2009. Dr. Knaebel is responsible for the Tuttlingen-based Aesculap division, which offers an extensive range of products and services relating to surgery. The Supervisory Board decided on this appointment on December 2, 2008. Chairman of the Managing Board Prof. Dr. h. c. Ludwig Georg Braun said: “We wish Dr. Knaebel every success in his new position and would like to thank Prof. Ungethüm for his outstanding contribution over the past 31 years.” The function of Deputy Chairman of the Management Board previously held by Prof. Ungethüm will be assumed by Dr. Heinz-Walter Große, the Management Board member responsible for Finance and Human Resources.
On his new appointment, Dr. Knaebel declared: “I would like to explore new ground and continue the progress made to date in order to ensure a stable future positioning for Aesculap in the city, region and within B. Braun Melsungen AG while also focusing on new aspects”.
Born in Stuttgart in 1968, Dr. Hanns-Peter Knaebel studied medicine in Ulm, Tübingen and at Yale University in New Haven, USA. On completing his studies and his doctorate in 1995, he began work as a doctor at Heidelberg Surgical University Hospital, where he remained for twelve years, the last five as Senior Physician. Dr. Knaebel is a specialist in surgery and visceral surgery.
On 1 January 2007, he took over as Head of the Clinical Science department in the Aesculap division, where he has had global responsibility for Marketing and Sales since 1 May 2007. In March 2008, Dr. Knaebel was appointed to the management of Aesculap AG & Co. KG and has been a member of the Aesculap AG Management Board since 6 May 2008. Dr. Knaebel is married with three children.
