B. Braun Launches Duplex® for Use with Cefoxitin

The company is now shipping the only premium I.V. drug delivery system available for CeFOXItin Therapy in U.S.

Bethlehem (PA/U.S.A.). B. Braun Medical Inc., a global leader in innovative healthcare products and services, today announced the launch of CeFOXItin 1g and 2g for injection in the DUPLEX® Drug Delivery System. Approved for use with CeFOXItin by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 10, 2006, DUPLEX is now the only ready-to-use IV drug delivery system available for CeFOXItin therapy in the United States.

"DUPLEX fills an immediate need for hospitals across the country with a simple, ready-to-use formula for this critical antibiotic therapy, enabling caretakers to provide the highest standard of care for their patients," said Rick Williamson, Director of Marketing, Drug Delivery, B. Braun Medical Inc. "DUPLEX reduces the potential for medication dosing errors with a unique barcode technology that references final admixture, can be used to automate patient charting, and is designed to fit into medication dispensing systems to track inventory and facilitate reimbursement."

DUPLEX is designed to help pharmacists and clinicians comply with Joint Commission on Accreditation and Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and USP <797> Guidelines, which specify that medicines should be dispensed in their "most ready-to-use form." The DUPLEX Drug Delivery System is a closed system to ensure sterility and dose accuracy. It consists of a pre-filled, PVC-, DEHP-, and latex-free IV container that includes accurate doses of drug and diluent in different compartments, separated by a quick release seal. There are no vials to attach or activate, and there is no possibility of delivering the diluent without the drug. Prior to activation, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 18 months and does not require a thawing process.

"Having a premium system for CeFOXItin on formulary is a real economic benefit for the hospital," said James Abberton, M.S., R.Ph., Director of Pharmacy, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, New York. "Its ready-to-use packaging and extended storage capacity reduces preparation time and provides hospital staff added flexibility for distribution and administration. Patients receive the right medication when they need it and without the complications associated with frozen or mixed solutions."

With the addition of CeFOXItin to its DUPLEX portfolio, B. Braun now offers a broad range of intravenous cephalosporin antibiotic therapies for the hospital and outpatient settings, covering the first three generations of cephalosporins: Cefazolin, CeFOXItin, CefuROXIme and CefTRIaxONE.

B. Braun is currently assisting customers with order placement and/or questions regarding DUPLEX for use with CeFOXItin. The Company can be reached at 1-800-BBRAUN-2 (800-227-2862).
