B. Braun extends application deadline for international innovation competition until March 28, 2008.
How will tomorrow’s doctors close wounds? Which technologies and materials will revolutionize surgical suturing? With its international and interdisciplinary competition, The Future of Sutures, B. Braun Melsungen AG is calling on researchers, medical professionals and designers from around the globe to submit innovative ideas on new methods for surgical wound closure. At the request of numerous potential candidates, the company has now extended the deadline for submissions by one month, until March 28, 2008. The competition will award prizes of a total value in excess of 400,000 euros.
B. Braun has launched The Future of Sutures in some 30 countries around the globe, and numerous future-ready ideas have already been received. So far, most have been submitted in Germany, with contestants in Asia also having exhibited a high level of interest. Given the outstanding response, the healthcare supplier is extending the competition’s deadline in order to offer as many medical professionals, researchers and creative thinkers as possible a platform for interdisciplinary exchange.
Individual contestants and teams from all disciplines now have until March 28 to submit their applications online at www.sutures-bbraun.com. Submissions are being accepted across the three broad themes “Natural Science and Technology”, “Medicine and Usability” and “Form and Function.” Through The Future of Sutures competition, the Melsungen, Germany-based company is commemorating the introduction of industrially produced, sterile sutures by B. Braun exactly 100 years ago. The international competition is being supported by the German and British national surgeons' associations.
