Wilhelm Tönnis

German neurosurgeon, Stockholm, Berlin, Bochum, Köln 1898 - 1978, born in Kley/Dortmund, died in Köln

Tönnis is regarded in Germany as the pioneer and founding father of neurosurgery. He wrote over 300 works on neurosurgery and research into the brain, including vascular deformities and vascular tumours of the brain, the surgical treatment of cervical vertebral syndrome and the treatment of pituitary adenomas.
