B. Braun Medical Sponsors Practice Greenhealth’s PVC – DEHP Free Award at CleanMed 2016
Bon Secours St. Francis Health System recognized for commitment to eco-friendly products
BETHLEHEM, PA – July 18, 2016 – B. Braun Medical Inc., an industry pioneer in eliminating Di-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) from its medical products, recently honored Bon Secours St. Francis Health System for its efforts in protecting patients and the environment. At this year’s CleanMed 2016 annual conference in Dallas, TX, B. Braun presented the Greenville, SC health system with the Practice Greenhealth PVC – DEHP Free Award.
B. Braun has been a proud sponsor of this award for the past 4 years in collaboration with Practice Greenhealth, an organization for institutions and businesses in the healthcare field who are engaged in reducing their environmental footprints.
“Congratulations to Bon Secours St. Francis Health System for achieving this high honor, said Paul Bogart, Executive Director of Practice Greenhealth. “By sponsoring this award, B. Braun is encouraging hospitals to invest in safer alternatives for patients in hospitals across the country.”
“At B. Braun, we take great pride in our robust line of safe and effective medical products that are not made with PVC and DEHP. We are equally proud to recognize healthcare facilities like Bon Secours St. Francis Health System that share our commitment to eliminating these toxic materials from the healthcare setting and the environment,” said Rick Williamson, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Marketing at B. Braun.
Exposure to these toxic materials has been a growing concern for healthcare facilities and public health organizations around the world. For decades B. Braun has recognized the environmental and patient risks posed by products containing PVC and DEHP. As a result, B. Braun was the first medical device manufacturer to remove these harmful substances from many products and today is the only supplier that offers a full-line of solution containers that are not made with PVC or DEHP.
“Environmental sustainability is an important part of the ministry of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. We continue to place utmost importance on patient safety including the evaluation of procurement processes and purchased products that do not contain certain chemicals that pose associated health risks,” said Karen Schwartz, Vice President of Support Services at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
“We are honored to receive the Practice Greenhealth 2016 Environmental Excellence Award which recognizes our continued commitment to provide environmentally sustainable, high quality healthcare in a faith-based environment,” said Craig McCoy, CEO of Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. We would like to thank B. Braun for recognizing our ongoing efforts to replace PVC and DEHP containing medical devices with safer alternatives.
B. Braun is committed to finding alternative methods to manufacture safer products such as the TITAN™ XL irrigation bags and E3® IV containers. To learn more about B. Braun’s environmental sustainability efforts, visit www.bbrauncares.com.
