Safety for patients and health care professionals

It is known from the international guidelines*, that 30% to 40% of nosocomial infections are related to the urinary tract, more than half of these infections are related to urinary catheters (CAUTI: Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections) and specifically foley indwelling catheters.

Looking at international guidelines* in urinary care, the recommendations are clear in terms of best practice/protocols and also product definition.

B. Braun urinary care product development is based on these two main aspects from the guidelines to offer reliable solutions and safe products with the:

  • Reduction of DEHP exposure
  • Use of silicone technologies
  • Use of urinary closed systems
  • Limitation of the sharp injuries with needle free products
  • "No-touch" system to limit contamination

The 17th of September 2015 was the First International Day for Patient Safety, which shows the importance of this topic.
