The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Tübingen are pleased to announce this special fellowship program which is exclusively funded by an annual grant from Aesculap.

Each year 4 young neurosurgeons especially from developing countries, will have the chance to be trained in the whole field of neurosurgical techniques at the Department of Neurosurgery in Tübingen.

Program Information

Program Information

The fellowship consists of extensive exposure to the whole spectrum of neurosurgical techniques including complex spine, functional, epilepsy, neuro-oncology, vascular, skull base, pituitary as well as the numerous translational research programmes within the Neuroscience Programme of the Department of Neurosurgery in combination with the Center of Neurology of the University of Tübingen.
The Department of Neurosurgery of the University of Tübingen is a large institution which runs a daily surgical program of 10-12 surgeries, or almost 3,000 surgeries per year. There is a Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit with 16 beds, as well as a close cooperation with the Departments of Neuroradiology and Neurology.

Program details are

  • Duration of fellowship will be 3 months.
  • Fellows will be provided with furnished accommodation.
  • Fellows will be paid scholarship of  € 1,250  per month.
  • The Fellowship does not provide travel expenses.
  • Candidates will be allowed to attend surgeries, conferences, workshops and other educational activities during the fellowship period.

On November 9th, 2018 we welcomed Dr. Akhror T. Yoqubov from Uzbekistan in our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen.
He is our 30th WFNS-Aesculap Adult Fellow and for neurosurgical training in the University Hospital in Tübingen.
In Tuttlingen awaited him a mixture between product sessions and factory tours.

We had the pleasure to welcome Dr. Emmanuel Obeta from Nigeria on September 14th, 2018 in our headquarter in Tuttlingen. Dr. Obeta was from July - September 2018 for neurosurgical training in the university hospital in Tübingen.
In Tuttlingen he got insights in our production departments as well as in our Aesculap Academy.

We had been happy to welcome Dr. Ali Karadag from Turkey on April 23, 2018 at our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen. The program included product sessions as well as a tour through our production departments.

Dr. Al-Fotih cames from Yemen and he was starting his training in October of the university in Tübingen with Prof. Tatagiba. He is our 27th WFNS-Aesculap Fellow and we welcomed him on 27 November in the headquarter of Aesculap in Tuttlingen.
We hope he had an interesting training and returned back to Yemen with many new experiences.

On September 18th we welcomed Dr. Jasmit Singh in our Aesculap headquarter in Tuttlingen. Dr. Singh was from July - September 2017 for neurosurgical training in the university hospital in Tübingen. As our 26th WFNS-Aesculap Adult Fellow he got insights in our production departements as well as in our Aesculap Academy. On June 23rd we welcomed Dr. Mollea in the headquarter of Aesculap in Tuttlingen. The day started with a welcome in the Aesculap Academy.

We are pleased to name Paymen Vahedi as the first WFNS-Aesculap Fellow. Starting in November, he had been trained in the neurosurgical department of the University of Tübingen with Prof. Tatagiba. For this very reason, we didn't want to miss the chance to welcome him here at Aesculap.
We hope he had a successful stay in Tübingen and that he returned to Iran in February with many new experiences and ideas.

Application Process

Application Process

The ideal candidate is a young neurosurgeon from a residency training program or an equivalent program especially from developing countries who during her or his residency demonstrated good skills in microsurgery.

Furthermore, the fellows should have  work experience of no longer than three (3) years after concluding the residency training.
