      Colorectal cancer

      Colorectal cancer is the third most common malignant disease in the world with almost million new diagnoses and 916,000 deaths in 2020. [1] Approximately 40% of all colorectal cancers are located in the right hemicolon. [2]

      Hemicolectomy is a commonly performed colorectal operation for cancer of the colon. [3] In Germany, for example, around 35,000 hemicolectomies were carried out in 2022. [4]
