Anyone can experience a burn. Depending on the severity of the injury, different treatment approaches are required – ranging from first aid to specialized treatments at dedicated burn centers.

Every year, about six million people around the world seek medical treatment for burns.^[1]

Burn management for severe cases

15 percent of all burns occurring worldwide are of a severe nature and need to be treated in hospitals.^[2]In these cases, every second counts, because such injuries can cause infections which in turn lead to sepsis or even multiple organ failure. These are the most frequent causes for the death of burn victims.^[3] Infection prevention is therefore a top priority, in particular with regard to extensive surface burns.
